What to expect from your
Pelvic Health Physiotherapy experience

At The Regen Practice, we believe that effective physiotherapy starts with a space that feels calm, safe and genuinely supportive. We want you to feel in the driver’s seat of your care from the moment you walk through our door.

A private, calm space

Your appointment will take place in a comfortable, private treatment room at Southfield House. We start by simply listening. We will spend time discussing your story - your symptoms, your medical history and what matters most to you.

We’ll explore how your pelvic health is impacting your daily life, movement and confidence. Whether you are seeking relief from pain, confidence in your bladder and bowel health, or support through pregnancy and postpartum recovery, our goal is to help you feel like yourself again.

Your assessment, your choice

To get a full picture of what’s happening, we may suggest a physical assessment. This is a collaborative process; we work at your pace and only move forward with your full, ongoing consent.

Clothing and comfort You don’t need to wear anything special for your appointment. Depending on your symptoms, you may need to remove some clothing for your examination. We will always ensure you feel covered and comfortable throughout.

Internal examinations If your concerns relate to your pelvic floor, an internal examination (vaginal or rectal) is often the best way to assess muscle function, check the healing of any stitches or identify areas of tension. We will talk through exactly what this involves and why it is helpful beforehand.

You are in control You have the absolute right to say no, delay the exam to a later date or change your mind at any point. We move away from 'quick fixes' to focus on your understanding and comfort. We are here to build your confidence, never to make you feel pressured.

Note on menstruation Please don’t feel you need to cancel if you are on your period. It is a completely normal part of our day and we can still carry out an assessment if you are comfortable. If it’s a heavy day and you’d rather not, we can easily adapt and assess your pelvic floor externally instead.

Chaperones and support

Your peace of mind is our priority. You are more than welcome to bring an informal chaperone (a partner, friend or trusted adult family member) to sit in on your session for support and reassurance.

If you would like us to provide a formal chaperone (a trained member of staff), please let us know before your appointment so we can make the necessary arrangements. You have the right to decline or pause treatment at any time until a chaperone is present.

Attending with children

Babies and children are always welcome at The Regen Practice. We are very used to working around little ones! You can bring a buggy right into the room and we can even carry out your assessment while you are holding your baby, if they need to stay close. If you are having an internal examination, you may find it helpful to bring another adult to help look after them during that specific part of the session, but we will always work with you to make it a stress-free experience.

How to prepare

To help us give you the best care possible, it is useful to bring a list of your current medications.

If you are visiting us for symptoms relating to your bladder, please complete a bladder diary ahead of time. You can download and print the diary here:

If you you can't print it, please don't worry. Some people prefer to write the information on paper or in a note on their mobile phone.

Moving forward together

After your assessment, we will discuss the findings with you using clear, honest language, with no jargon. We will agree on a bespoke plan that fits your life. You will always have plenty of time to ask questions so that you leave feeling informed and empowered.

If you need to reschedule

Your appointment is a dedicated space for your recovery. If you need to cancel or reschedule, please do so via the booking system or email us at hello@theregenpractice.com

Because we offer long, specialist sessions, we kindly ask for 24 hours notice so we can offer that time to someone else who may be waiting for care. Cancellations with more than 24 hours notice will receive a full refund. If you cancel with less than 24 hours notice or do not show up for your appointment, the full fee will be retained.

We understand that genuine emergencies happen. We may waive cancellation fees in special circumstances.
