Your questions answered | Making the unknown feel safe
We always start with a conversation. We’ll spend time discussing your symptoms, how they impact your daily life and what you’re hoping to achieve.
To get a full picture, we may suggest a physical assessment. This might involve looking at your movement and pelvic joints, or a internal (vaginal or rectal) examination. We want to be very clear: any physical assessment is entirely your choice. We will talk through exactly what’s involved beforehand, and we only move forward with your full consent.
Once we’ve finished the assessment, we’ll sit down together to discuss what we’ve found and explore your options. You’ll leave with a clear, personal plan to help you move forward, followed by a written summary sent to your inbox so you have all the information to hand.
We believe in a holistic, joined-up approach. Because every story is different, we don’t use 'off-the-shelf' solutions. Instead, we draw from a wide range of specialist techniques to create a plan that fits your life. These may include:
• Understanding and education: Clear, jargon-free advice to help you understand your symptoms and regain control.
• Rebuilding strength: Personalised exercise programmes for your core and pelvic floor, including muscle re-education using biofeedback or electrical stimulation where helpful.
• Hands-on (manual) therapy: Specialist soft-tissue massage, joint mobilisations and pelvic floor manual therapy to release tension or overactivity.
• Lifestyle and habit coaching: Practical guidance on breathing techniques, relaxation, fluid management and bladder or bowel retraining.
• Return to activity: Tailored, evidence-based advice on safely returning to the exercise and hobbies you love, following birth or surgery.
Absolutely. We want you to feel as comfortable and supported as possible. You are more than welcome to bring a friend, partner or family member along to sit in on your session.
Please don't feel you need to cancel; we see this all the time and it’s a completely normal part of our day. We can still carry out an internal assessment if you are comfortable; we have all the facilities and clinical supplies needed to make it feel stress-free. If it’s a heavy day and you’d rather not, we can easily adapt and assess your pelvic floor externally instead. Just let us know how you’re feeling when you arrive.
There is no 'one size fits all' because every story is different. After your first assessment, we will give you a clear, bespoke plan. Some people feel empowered after just two or three sessions, while others benefit from longer-term support. Our aim is to build your confidence, not dependency.
Yes, of course. We are very used to working around little ones. You are welcome to bring a buggy or carrycot right into the room with you, or we can lay a clean blanket on the floor for them.
Ideally, we try to find a settled moment for the baby during the assessment portion of the session, but we know that babies have their own agendas! If they need to stay close, we are more than happy to carry out your assessment while you are holding them. Your comfort and your baby's needs come first.
Absolutely. Our expert care is for everybody. We support men with a variety of pelvic health concerns, including bladder and bowel issues, pelvic pain, erectile dysfunction and recovery following prostate surgery. We provide a safe, discreet environment to discuss your health openly.
You are welcome at any stage. Some people see us early on for help with pelvic girdle pain, while others visit in their second or third trimester to prepare their pelvic floor for birth. If you have concerns, the 'right time' is whenever you feel you need support.
Generally, the 6-week mark is the ideal time for your first comprehensive check. This allows your body some initial time to heal, and we don't recommend an internal pelvic floor assessment before this point.
However, we know that recovery doesn't always wait for a 6-week milestone. We often see parents as early as 3 weeks postpartum, particularly if you are navigating a complex recovery. If you are struggling or simply need early reassurance, please don't feel you have to wait.
Yes! Even without a vaginal birth, your pelvic floor has carried the weight of a baby for 9 months. If you had an emergency C-section after being in labour, those muscles may have experienced additional strain.
Beyond that, the pelvic floor is the 'foundation' of your core and effective abdominal rehab after a caesarean should always start there. A check can also help address common post-C-section issues like bladder urgency or discomfort during sex, ensuring you feel strong from the inside out.
We are based at Southfield House in Westbury-on-Trym. There is free on-site parking at the back of the building, so you don't have to worry about finding a space or rushing back to a meter. If it is full, there is plenty of free on-street parking.
Our clinic is designed to be a welcoming, accessible space. We are located on the ground floor with step-free access. If you have specific mobility concerns or are bringing a large double pram, just let us know so we can make sure your arrival is seamless.
We understand that life can be unpredictable, especially when you’re balancing family and health. We kindly ask for at least 24 hours notice if you need to cancel or reschedule.
Because we offer long, specialist appointments, it is difficult for us to fill these slots at short notice. Providing 24 hours allows us to offer the time to someone else who may be waiting for care. Appointments cancelled within 24 hours will be subject to the full session fee.
To keep things simple and allow us to focus entirely on your care during your session, we work on a prepayment basis. When you book your appointment through our website, payment is taken securely via Stripe. If you happen to book a follow-up session with us, we will email you a secure link so that the appointment is paid for in advance.
